At the time of the last class reunion (August '96), I had just taken on my two step-granddaughters, Tamara and Timber, 14 and 12. You think my hair was gray then! I took them as foster children and then adopted them in August 1998 to get all the "supervision" out of our lives. They are now 19 and 17: the 19 year-old is graduating from high school and the 17 year-old is expecting a baby in July. Boy have I learned a lot! One note of advice - If God doesn't give you daughters, don't ask for them!

My son Mark is 34 and lives in Phoenix. His fiancée was killed in January so his life plans are tenuous at present. My son Ryan is 28, lives in Nappanee, Indiana, and works in his dad's company as Director of Marketing. He lived the city life here to its fullest but evidently had his fill and now loves the small town life. I expect wedding plans from him very soon.

I'm looking forward to solitude. I'm still working as a Legal Assistant and will continue for 10 years I'm sure. If the stock market doesn't turn around I may be working when I'm in the nursing home! Our firm consists of 17 attorneys and a staff of 23. My work is primarily in estate planning and I do enjoy it. I did my time in litigation and didn't mind giving it up.

I have just completed training and have been commissioned as a Stephen Minister. This is a one-on-one Christian caring ministry, somewhere between friendship and counseling. I will be assigned one person in crisis and continue the relationship (with confidentiality) as long as needed. With guidelines and peer supervision I can CARE FOR people without TAKING CARE OF people. One phrase we use is "servanthood not servitude." I like it.

My plans include the reunion in September. Ray, thanks for all your work and creativity. Roger Rundle - where have you been!!?? Actually, I know where you've been; I just want to see you. (3/28/01)
